Steak Hops
Bataan does beef well. Between the freeport's import access and a few homegrown grill houses with serious dry-agers, you can put together a steak hop that rivals anything in Manila — at half the markup and twice the elbow room.
- Duration
- Full day + overnight recommended
- Budget
- ₱1,800–₱3,500 per head
- Best time
- Start 11 AM — late lunch, sunset closer
The route
5 stops, in order. Skip what you want — the locals do too.
- 1
Opening cut — Balanga grill house
BalangaStart light: skirt steak, chimichurri, garlic rice. You're pacing for four more stops — don't blow it on a tomahawk yet.
Local tip: Ask for medium-rare and trust the chef.
- 2
The dry-ager
BalangaHouse dry-ages 28–45 days. Share a ribeye, order the bone marrow, and the kitchen will time it so you don't wait long.
- 3
Beer pause — craft tap room
LimayNot a steakhouse — but you need it. Local craft on tap, salt-and-pepper wings, 30 minutes of standing up.
- 4
Mariveles freeport grill
MarivelesUSDA Choice at near-cost. Tomahawk for the table, loaded baked potatoes, and a view of the bay if you book the deck.
Local tip: Reserve ahead on weekends — the deck seats fill by 5 PM.
- 5
Sunset closer — bayside
MarivelesLight bites, whisky, the last of the sun across Manila Bay. Stay the night — driving back full and tired is a bad plan.
Before you go
- Book stops 2 and 4 in advance — both fill on Fri/Sat nights.
- Designate a driver or hire one. The hop is built around drinks.
- If you only have one meal, skip to stop 4.
